Mother's Day Prayers for Children Peaceful Presence

Peaceful Presence
Mother's Day Prayers for Children
Sunday, May 11, 5PM
King Plaza, 250 Hamilton, Palo Alto

Our May Peaceful Presence lands on Mother's Day this year, so our theme will be "Mother's Day Prayers for Children." We will draw on the historical impetus for Mother's Day when, in 1870, Julia Ward Howe made a Mother's Day Proclamation for Peace to protest the evil and carnage of war. (For a 3 minute video from BRAVE NEW FILMS with a brief history of Mother's Day and a reading of Howe's proclamation, click here.)

Our Peaceful Presence will include prayers and reflections from mothers in the Middle East, immigrant mothers, mothers concerned about education, and from Mother Earth. As one human family, let us gather to share prayers and commitment, resisting the forces that harm any of our children, inspiring us to work for justice, compassion and wholeness for all children, all beings, all creation.

We will gather outdoors at King Plaza (in front of Palo Alto City Hall) at 5pm (NOTE EARLIER TIME!). Everyone is welcome.

Please invite others to join us for a Mother's Day service needed by all of us in these unprecedented times.
