Finding Hope and Re-Imagining America: Toward a Tri-Sectoral Imagination of the American Future

When: Saturday, February 01 2020 @ 09:00 am - - 03:30pm
Event Type:
Contact: Linda Lingane
Where: Palo Alto Friends Meeting
957 Colorado Avenue
Palo Alto, CA 94303
Description: An experiential workshop with Christopher Schaefer. How can we find an inner and outer balance while witnessing the turbulent times in which we live? What are the main factors which have led to the corruption and decline of American society? How can we protect and extend human freedom, assure equal rights, and create an economy which serves human needs and aspirations while protecting the earth? What can we do individually and collectively to move toward a society which our hearts long for and which our heads tell us is needed if we are to save ourselves and the earth? We will work on these questions in pairs, small groups, and in the whole circle, allowing participants to choose which of three areas they wish to work on: fostering human freedom, restoring democracy and equal rights, or creating an economy which serves people and the earth. Chris will also share some of his conclusions about a possible new Tri-Sectoral Covenant between the American people and their society. The morning session will end with a review of a detailed tri-sectoral perspective on our social future. After lunch we will provide participants with the opportunity to work on more detailed issues of their choosing, ending with reports on our findings and a conversation about how we can best move forward together.
Suggested contribution: $30 for the morning, 9am-12noon; $45 for the day including lunch, 9-3:30.
